Kuala Lumpur, 16 November 2024 –Trip.com Malaysia successfully hosted its inaugural ‘Green Travel Fun Run’ at TownSquare Park, Gamuda Cove, bringing together staff, partners, and sponsors in a celebration of fitness, sustainability, and community spirit. The event attracted almost 200 participants including Trip.com employees and representatives from industry partners and sponsors, all contributing to this significant step toward environmental restoration.

Aligned with Trip.com Malaysia’s “Explore & Restore” theme, the event highlighted the importance of sustainable travel and active efforts to preserve the environment. Participants enjoyed a 5km fun run, followed by a meaningful tree planting activity. Supported by Gamuda Cove as the venue sponsor and partner, some 320 trees were planted to help offset carbon footprints and promote local biodiversity. Gamuda Cove’s commitment to sustainability includes ongoing care for the newly planted trees.

The event also featured a booth by ‘Kloth Woman Up’, showcasing upcycled merchandise created by women from marginalised and economically vulnerable communities, reinforcing the event’s “Go Green” ethos.

The Green Travel Fun Run was supported by China Airlines as the Diamond Sponsor, along with five platinum sponsors and three gold sponsors, showcasing the collective dedication of industry leaders to sustainable practices.

Trip.com Malaysia aims to set an example by promoting eco-friendly practices in the travel industry and fostering collaboration to integrate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) values. This event exemplified the convergence of fitness, sustainability, and community, making a meaningful impact on the environment and fostering positive relationships.

Ms Stephane Thong, General Manager, Trip.com Malaysia, said: “Today’s success is a testament to our belief that travel should not only explore the world but also give back to it. We are grateful to our sponsors, partners, and participants for making this possible and joining us in championing sustainability.”

She added, “We look forward to continuing our efforts in promoting eco-friendly practices and encouraging industry collaboration for long-term positive change. This run also supports national initiatives to enhance urban green spaces. Our contribution plays a part in fostering a healthier ecosystem and encouraging community responsibility toward environmental stewardship.”

Ms. Liong Ve Lyn, Senior General Manager of Leisure & Hospitality, Gamuda Land, said: “We are happy to be a part of Trip.com Malaysia’s event as the venue sponsor, as its goals tie in closely with Gamuda Berhad’s aims of Transforming the future and Reshaping communities. Providing the land for more than 300 trees to be planted is not only giving back to the community, but is also one way of achieving our goal of #OneMillionTrees that is aimed at preserving the country’s biodiversity by planting one million trees across our townships. We look forward to nurturing these life-giving trees as we continue to drive meaningful change through our actions.”
