Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, 9 December 2024 – Sunway Group and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) signed a three-year Technical and Vocational Educational and Training (TVET) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on skills and expertise sharing, industrial training programmes and human capital development.

Working with Ibrahim Sultan Polytechnic (PIS) under MOHE’s Department of Polytechnic and Community Colleges, this collaboration will provide internship opportunities to TVET students from the southern region of Malaysia.

In addition, a key focus of this tie-up entails the implementation of Structured Industrial Training programmes designed to enhance students’ practical skills and prepare them to meet evolving and real-world industry demands.

To date, more than 200 TVET students nationwide have benefited from Sunway’s ongoing partnership with Universiti Teknologi MARA, the National Youth Advance Skills Training Institute and several polytechnics and community colleges across Malaysia.

Sunway has also provided internship and skills sharing opportunities to other public TVET institutions, reinforcing its commitment to advancing technical and vocational education in the country.

Sunway Group chief HR officer Foo Shiang Wyne expressed confidence in the effectiveness of this collaboration. “We believe that the synergy established through this MoU will enable us to produce a competent workforce that meets market demand. Sunway is committed to providing quality industrial training opportunities and talent development programmes for PIS students.”

Senior Director of Competency, Department of Polytechnic and Community Colleges (JPPKK) under MOHE, Ts. Razak bin Sabtu said, “This collaboration demonstrates JPPKK’s commitment, alongside PIS, to ensure graduates are equipped with relevant skills that align with current industry demands. Sunway serves as a strategic partner that will assist us in expanding training opportunities and facilitating job placements for our graduates.”

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from Sunway, along with senior officials and staff from MOHE’s Department of Polytechnic and Community Colleges and PIS. This occasion signifies an important stride towards strengthening the relationship between academia and industry, as both sectors continue their joint efforts to advance the development of quality human capital in Malaysia.

This MoU is part of Sunway’s holistic efforts to uplift Malaysians by focusing on education and upskilling across five primary industries – Hospitality, Culinary, Facilities & Equipment Maintenance, Automotive and Healthcare.

Sunway’s collaboration with public vocational schools is in line with the Malaysian Government’s growing focus on vocational education, having increased its allocation in Budget 2025 from RM6.8 billion to RM 7.5 billion.
