Keep Diabetes At Bay With Complimentary Blood Glucose Screenings

Sun Life Malaysia Offers Blood Glucose Tests At 115 Pharmacy Outlets In The Country

Kuala Lumpur, 12 November 2021 – This November, as the nation observes ‘World Diabetes Day’, on 14 November, to raise awareness on this chronic disease, Malaysians can also join the fight against diabetes by participating in the complimentary blood glucose screenings programme available at 115 participating pharmacy outlets nationwide.

The complimentary blood glucose screenings are offered by Sun Life Malaysia,  a life insurance and family takaful provider, through its flagship diabetes awareness programme – the Brighter Health Blood Glucose Screening Programme’.

The programme aims to help those facing higher risk of diabetes detect and treat the conditions early to prevent complications. This year, the programme is organised in collaboration with Walnut Wellness, Roche Diagnostics (M) Sdn Bhd, AM PM Pharmacy Sdn Bhd, and Multicare Pharmacy Sdn Bhd.

The National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) in 2019 found that Malaysia has one of the highest diabetes prevalence rate in Asia with nearly 3.9 million Malaysian adults suffering from diabetes, a truly alarming statistic that must be taken seriously.

Raymond Lew, CEO and President/Country Head of Sun Life Malaysia said, “When it comes to diabetes, early detection is a key factor to prevent and even reverse the disease. It is our hope that these complimentary screenings could raise awareness and rally more Malaysians to proactively prevent this non-communicable lifestyle disease.”

“Since the onset of the pandemic, many people have delayed the much needed health services to diagnose and treat chronic diseases including diabetes. It is vital, now more than ever, that we continue to raise awareness for prevention and treatment of these diseases,” Lew continued.

All screenings under the programme are carried out by registered pharmacists with a strict accordance to the COVID-19 prevention and SOPs set by the government to safeguard the health and safety of both participants and pharmacists administering the tests.

Sun Life Malaysia reminds Malaysians looking to participate in the blood glucose check-up to mask up and protect themselves according to the government’s COVID-19 SOPs.

Additionally, participants will receive a RM30 e-voucher which can be used to purchase a Roche Accu-Chek blood glucose meter at any outlets under the two participating pharmacies: AM PM Pharmacy and Multicare Pharmacy.
