Capturing Hope: The Struggle Continues For A New Malaysia

MPH Group Publishing is honoured and excited to once again collaborate with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his upcoming book, Capturing Hope: The Struggle Continues for a New Malaysia.

Though not a sequel to the best-selling A Doctor in the House: The Memoirs of Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, it chronologically follows from the memoirs. In it, Dr Mahathir attempts to set the record straight regarding the Pakatan Harapan Government and his second tenure as Prime Minister of Malaysia.

The book begins after his retirement: from his push to criminalise war and promote peace, then his re-entry into politics, the Pakatan Harapan coalition’s victory in the 14th Malaysian General Election and his return to the premiership, to the events that led to the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government and where Malaysia stands today.

Originally, a direct sequel to A Doctor in the House was planned. “We thought about it some time after GE14,” says MPH. “But because of the change in government and the pandemic in early 2020, the nature of the book had to change as well.”

What finally emerged aims to offer a frank, at times blunt discussion of the challenges that the Pakatan Harapan government faced and the betrayals from within the coalition that ultimately led to the Government’s downfall and to many unthinkable firsts in Malaysian politics.

Dr Mahathir also ponders several topics which he states “stand at the centre of the problems” that Malaysia currently confronts and expresses the hope that a new generation of Malaysians will continue the struggle to better the country.

“Given Tun’s huge part in Malaysia’s history and politics, we are thrilled to finally release this book after keeping it under wraps for months,” MPH added. “We believe many still want to know his thoughts about current Malaysian affairs and the country’s future, and we are anxious to see how the public will respond.”

Capturing Hope will soon be available at all major bookstores in Malaysia and Singapore at RM100 per copy (hardcover version). For more information about the book, please visit https://www.mphpublishing.com/. You may also pre-order your copy now at all major bookstores nationwide.
