Sepang, 29 May 2024 – BRIX KLIA is thrilled to announce the completion of the first phase of its Artist-In-Residence (A.I.R) program. This initiative has provided a vibrant platform for five talented local artists to immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of BRIX KLIA and derive inspiration for their artistic creations, subsequently displayed within the hotel’s premises.

The A.I.R program at BRIX KLIA is thoughtfully crafted to offer artists a respite from the rigours of their daily routine, allowing them a space to hone their craft. It provides selected artists, driven by a fervent passion for art, with a week-long complimentary stay and dedicated workspace in the hotel to develop a creative project around a specific theme.

The recent cycle welcomed artists from various disciplines including a painter, fashion designer, sketcher, graffiti artist and digital artist, each injecting their distinct flair and inventiveness into their work. Throughout their residency, they enjoyed the freedom to work in their rooms or among the public and other guests, sparking interactions and facilitating the sharing of their visions with a larger audience.

The inaugural exhibition, held in March, featured the dynamic creations of fashion designer Siti Zayanah Binti Mohammad Yazed, founder of Zayanah Yazed Creations and abstract painter Shazwani Rhosky Fadzir who has participated in art exhibitions in Malaysia, and overseas.

Siti Zayanah specialises in crafting elegant attire using modern 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and artificial intelligence (A.I) in her design process. For the A.I.R. Program, she created a dress she calls ‘Antakesuma’, exclusively made from recycled lycra, making it not only a beautiful work of art but also a sustainable one.

Shazwani Rhosky Fadzir, during her residency, crafted a collection of four abstract paintings. Among them, a finger painting executed in acrylic on canvas stood out, fetching RM750 upon sale, with a portion donated to BRIX KLIA for the hotel’s future CSR endeavours. Infused with vibrant reds, oranges, blues, greens, and yellows, this piece resonated with the warm hues of the hotel’s exterior.

Embarking on her artistic journey in early 2021, Shazwani gravitates towards free-hand spontaneous strokes, drawing inspiration from masters like Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet. Her global presence is marked by an exploration of diverse styles, showcasing her boundless creativity. Driven by her passion for art, she seeks to inspire others through dynamic paintings that blend spontaneity, vibrant colours, and heartfelt expression.

Currently ongoing until the end of May, the second exhibition highlights the talents of sketch artist Ahmad Hakym Bin Ahmad Hylmy, graffiti artist Looi Mun Loong, and digital artist/sculptor Shahirah Norhesham.

As the founder and president of KL Sketchnation, Ahmad Hakym brought forth a collection of playful and vibrant caricatures portraying the dedicated staff of the hotel. His pièce de résistance was a stylistic sketch of the hotel’s facade, inked against a bright orange backdrop mirroring the establishment’s primary colour scheme. Ahmad’s background in architecture lends a strong sense of structure to his work.

Established in 2014, KL Sketchnation has evolved into a social enterprise, uniting communities through the art of sketching. With a primary focus on outdoor events, they capture the liveliness and vibrance of Kuala Lumpur’s architecture through the strokes of their pens.

Looi Mun Loong, known by his pseudonym “KOS,” is a Selangor-based graffiti artist renowned for his energetic and explosive style. In his captivating piece, he crafted an impactful painting of the letter “K” using spray paint on canvas.

Reflecting on the opportunity, KOS expressed how it allowed him to channel the decade he spent honing his skills into a pure expression of his art. His work, titled “breaKing Out,” embodies the raw energy of street art, featuring the stylized initials of his pseudonym against a backdrop of sharp-edged brick patterns. This motif resonates with the industrial themes prevalent in and around BRIX KLIA.
