The brand partners with Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub to support the association to offer sewing classes and promote self-sufficiency.
Petaling Jaya, May 7, 2024 – Brother International Malaysia, a leading provider of innovative printing, labelling, and sewing solutions, announces the support for the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory.
Brother Malaysia works with Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub, through sponsorship of its sewing machines together with all necessities required to equip its home sewing room located within the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory building.
The partnership sees Brother Malaysia’s commitment to social responsibility with Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub’s expertise in fashion design and education, with the aim to empower individuals with spastic disabilities by fostering creativity, developing practical skills and promoting self-reliance.
The newly established home sewing machine room will be equipped with Brother sewing machines to help start their journey. Both Brother Malaysia and Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub will have their staff and students to conduct training on sewing, explore sewing ideas along with providing the sewing necessities to assist the association.
Also part of this collaborations are CHTNetwork and Fella Design Sdn Bhd, sponsoring cash and raw materials for the sewing machine room efforts.
Brother Malaysia has gone beyond just donating its home sewing machines by also supplying all the necessary equipment and materials for a fully functional sewing room, ensuring that individuals involved in the training will have everything they need to begin their sewing journey.
According to Brother International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd’s Managing Director, Mr. Tsutomu Takaki, the brand believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. “We are proud to play a role in empowering and supporting the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory in achieving this goal. Also we want to thank Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub to partner with us in making this project possible. Their lecturers, students, together with our staff are eager to support this project,” adds Mr Tsutomu Takaki.

Speaking at the event, Augustine Wong, Director of Programme for Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub, “We are always committed to using our expertise to positive social impact. Also it is a good platform for our students to experience how they too could use their skills to create some positive changes to the communities they live in.”
The members of the association will be receiving trainings on basic sewing machine operation, seam sewing, turning corner and pivoting, zipper application, buttonhole creation as well as some intermediate level training that includes pattern reading, fabric cutting and layout, as well as working with different fabrics.
