Kuala Lumpur, 3 May 2024 — Avid runners can look forward to SCORE Marathon returning this July 2024. This will be the third year running featuring AIA Vitality as the presenting sponsor. The marathon – with sustainability at its core, will be held on 21 July 2024 at Putrajaya with a total of 49 categories, including a virtual run catering to both local and international runners of all ages, across distances between 5KM, 10KM, 21KM and 42KM. This year’s race targets a total of 25,000 participants — 10,000 more than last year.
“The simple phrase “One Person, One Sport” best encapsulates our vision, emphasising the transformative power of sports in a person’s life,” shared Patricia Tan, Chief Executive Officer of SCORE. “Beyond just a marathon organiser, SCORE‘s overarching purpose is to champion active and healthy lifestyles, and provide a platform for individuals to embrace fitness as a way of life. We’re also here to help people find their tribe — their community within their chosen sport — and we’re hoping that the corporate challenge will contribute to that as well.”
Heng Zee Wang, Chief Marketing Officer of AIA Malaysia, added: “At AIA, we are committed to empowering individuals to live vibrant, healthy lives. That’s why we’re thrilled to partner with SCORE once again, for the third consecutive time, to inspire people to get active and embrace wellness. As the presenting sponsor, we’re not just supporting an event, we’re championing a lifestyle. This year, we’re particularly excited with SCORE’s new challenge which provides corporate entities a fantastic opportunity to prioritise employee wellbeing. With each stride taken and every finish line crossed, not only do we want to promote fitness but also foster a culture of vitality and resilience. Runners can look forward to yet another successful marathon event that’s bound to be bigger, better and bursting with energy where they can experience the excitement, conquer their fitness goals and edge closer to achieving healthier, longer, better lives!”
This year’s theme, ‘Conquer the Journey’,focuses on both the individual running the race and the camaraderie and support throughout the process of becoming healthy. The theme centres on the belief that the journey is as significant as the destination, with this year’s marathon designed to celebrate personal triumphs and introduce exciting initiatives that promote fitness.
Recognising the growing emphasis on employee wellness in the corporate sector, SCORE Marathon introduces an exciting opportunity for corporates via its corporate challenge. This aligns perfectly with the focus on prioritising employee well-being, which is increasingly acknowledged as vital for a company’s success. Companies participating with the highest number of runners will be entitled to a trophy, canopy space, and complimentary entry tickets to next year’s event.
Sustainability at its Core
Sustainability remains a focal point this year, a commitment reflected in the design of this year’s finisher medals and event tees. The eco-friendly medal will be crafted from a combination of recycled plastic materials and recycled metal, symbolising SCORE Marathon’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint while celebrating every runner’s achievement.
SCORE Marathon will also be taking a sustainable approach in producing event tees, this year’s apparel partner, Pressio, will be providing participants with event tees made from recycled and biodegradable yarns — more specifically 50% recycled and 50% stretch polyester material. These fabrics are lightweight and fast-drying in nature, suitable for athletes and runners of all backgrounds.
SCORE Marathon is also proud to announce its continued association with the Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM) Wanda Age Group. Through this partnership, the event maintains the marathon’s status as a qualifying race for the AbbottWMM, allowing runners the opportunity to compete on a global stage for a world ranking. Not to forget, runners under the Speed category will be competing for cash prizes up to RM1,800 with a total of RM59,600 up for grabs.
Prior to the event on 21 July 2024, the race entry pack collection which coincides with the SCORE Sports & Fitness Expo will take place on 19 & 20 July 2024 at the Starling Mall, Petaling Jaya. Featuring up to 40 exhibitors under one roof, the 2-day expo will gather some of the best equipment and brands for runners and fitness enthusiasts who will have access to the latest products, while scoring amazing discounts. Opened to the public, SCORE invites everyone to attend the expo and be inspired to take up a sport.
