More than 400 million years ago, in the place we know as Western Victoria, the earth rose up to form the mountains the Kooris called Gariwerd, which we now call the Grampians. Over the years, wind, rain and water have carved fantastic shapes in the Grampians ancient stone, creating the steep craggy slopes and rock formations that thrust majestically upwards.

From some of the best rock-climbing in Australia, to walking tracks, wildlife, lookouts, waterfalls set against rugged landscapes as well as gourmet food and wine, there is something for every kind of visitor to the Grampians.

  1. Grampians Peaks Trail

The Grampians Peak Trail is a world-class, long-distance walking trail, enabling hikers to enjoy the best of the Grampians National Park. The first stage of the 144 kilometre long trail is now open and covers some of the Grampians most loved features. It is a 33 kilometre loop walk and can be completed over three days and two nights.

The most famous peak in the Grampians National Park, Pinnacle Lookout boasts spectacular views through the valley of the National Park. It is formed of irregular and fascinating rock formations for which the Grampians region is so well known.

  1. Mackenzie Falls

Mackenzie Falls flows year round and is one of Victoria’s largest and most spectacular waterfalls. Fast flowing water cascades over huge cliffs into a deep pool and sending fine sprays of rainbow mist high into the air above a stunning gorge.

Visitors can learn about the Grampians’ Aboriginal culture and history at Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Central. Brambuk also operates Aboriginal culture tours showcasing the area’s famed rock art.
